Bowen Therapy releases the chronic and acute patterns of tension by way of gentle moves at specific points.
Muscles can contract and, under duress, remain “stuck” in contraction.
Blood and nutrients are unable to pass as efficiently into the muscles and organs of the body as they could had the injury/restriction not have occurred.
The moves used in Bowen Therapy address the muscles, tendons and fascia in order to
- Reduce pain
- Increase range of motion
- Relieve muscle spasms
- Improve circulation
A Bowen Therapy session at Happy Valley Bowen Therapy focuses on the layers of connective tissue (fascia) and muscle tissue at specific points locations.
Injuries or chronic muscle tension can cause adhesions or knots that form in muscles, tendons and ligaments. These knots are called trigger points as they Trigger reactions throughout the body. This is why a therapist may work on a site far removed from the initial site of where the client feels pain.
By addressing myofascial pain through gentle manipulation of trigger points, Bowen therapy:
- breaks into the chemical and neurological feedback loop that maintains the myofascial contraction;
- increases circulation that has been restricted by the contracted tissue
- directly stretches the trigger point’s knotted muscle fibres.
It may be that a therapist works on a trigger point far removed from the site of pain. The difficulty in treating trigger points is that they typically send pain to some other site. Most conventional treatment of pain is based on the assumption that the cause of pain will be found at the site of the pain. But trigger points almost always send their pain elsewhere. This is called referred pain.
What makes Bowen Therapy so effective is because, rather than concentrating on pain itself, treating the site of the pain, Denise will work to treat the cause, which may be some distance away from the site of pain, numbness, tightness or the like that needs to be addressed so that the underlying issue can be solved.
